Audio publishers have begun to roll out the season’s new titles, and the breadth of choices for listeners continues to impress. The industry is coming off a year that saw significant sales growth in both the physical and digital download categories, with AAP StatShot numbers showing that physical audio sales were up 6.9% through the first seven months of 2015, compared to the same period in 2014, and audio downloads jumped 41%. The fluidity of formats has certainly played a role in this continued growth. Though we list the primary retail format only in our seasonal round-up below, most audio titles are available to consumers in several formats, thanks to print-on-demand-CD capability for many publishers and the broad number of distribution outlets for downloads. Our listing focuses on highlights of publishers’ spring offerings and provides a sneak peek at the array of listening selections on the way. This season, traditionally popular audio genres such as mystery and thrillers feature several debut authors alongside household names. And for those who love series, there are many launches and exciting finales in the mix. In short, there’s likely a spring audiobook for anyone on the hunt for something fresh. Happy listening!
